3. Discussion & Activity
What is a life long learner?
Read out loud.
Did you know you can grow your brain by challenging yourself to learn new things? Being a lifelong learn means continuing to learn new skills and knowledge long after the school day is over.

Discussion & Activity
Today your advisory is to explore various ways we can continue to learn beyond the classroom.
Needed Materials: something to write with, checklists, neckties
Instructions:
1. Hand each student a skills checklist.
2. Here is a checklist of 40 old-fashion skills that you can use today. Look through the checklist and mark off skills that you already know how to do.
3. Take a survey of how many items each student knows, skills that they don't know and if any of the skills surprised them.
4. Select a few of the tasks and ask students how to do the skill. (For example how to do laundry)
5. Are there any skills that are not on here that you know how to do?
6. One skill that is not on the list but is important to know is how to tie a necktie. No matter who you are knowing how to tie a necktie can be benefical to not only you but other people you may know.
7. Have the students watch the short video (below) on how to create a simple knot. Using the 4 neckties have students rotate taking turns on how to create a knot.
8. Reflection: How can being a lifelong learner help you mentally, in school, and in the future?
